Born at the Cape May Courthouse, Joshua grew up in Washington and attended Warren Hills Regional High School, where he graduated in 2021, his obituary says.

Joshua loved the outdoors and had participated in running club and ski clubs, archery, little league baseball, soccer, and more. He was also in the school band and had even spent time as a Jr. Firefighter.

Joshua had an incredibly kind and caring soul and was always inclined to offer help. He was described as a protective son, great-grandson, and nephew with endless compassion for others.

“He loved being able to put a smile on perhaps a less fortunate family’s face,” his memorial says.

Joshua is survived by his loving mother, Tammy Mornick; Uncle Bill, Uncle Jim and Aunt Lauren, Uncle Chuck, cousins, Maxwell, Cora, Mackenzie, Hannah, Ethan, and Zoey; as well as his grandfather Bill Mornick and his wife Carrise.

Meanwhile, more than $12,300 had been raised on a GoFundMe for Joshua’s final expenses.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Joshua Mornick, son of Tammy,” reads the campaign. “Joshua was a beloved former student at Warren Hills High School and will be missed by anyone who knew him…We are all devastated by Tammy's loss of her only son. We want to give Joshua the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes.”

Joshua’s memorial was held at Faith Discovery Church in Washington on Monday, Dec. 5.

“Joshua was a wonderful son, nephew, and friend who touched the lives of those around him.”
